Blacks, Latinos and even us Indians have reservation in the US. We get reservations right from Kinder garden, thru college and job opportunities. Many Federal govt. contracts are reserved for minorities and women.

As far as I can remember all I needed for SIN card was my landing papers and my passport as ID. I did not open a bank account in Canada so I can't help you with that one.
Is there an advantage in opening a bank account if you plan to return to the US? Please let me know. I might want to open one myslef if it's going to help in anyway.

looks like there is some hope for us in 2013 if the elections go well :)

Receipts only recieved by lawyer? Will benefeciary get any updates?
My colleague sent it on JUN 7th and got his receipts in mail yesterday and the receipt date was Jun11th.

Why don;t you sign unless it say until and after 1 year approval:, you can leave employment after 6 months of filing I-485 and see what happens at that time, you have nothing to loose

we got I-140 and I-485 approval email on August 19th; Card production ordered email on August 21st; got the physical approvals and cards in the mail on August 25th - whole thing took a week.

Just like everyother memeber has expressed opinion, i was shocked to read your posting.
May god give you the courage to handle the stress and resposibality you have now.
I keep trying to convince.."Did i realy read that posting or was it just a bad dream"..unfortunalty its not a dream..!!!
Do get it checked from well know doctors. Here is a youtube version of comenecement speach given by Steve Jobs. Even he was diagnized with cancer and he spent whole day thinking of his resposibality. But that evening the doctors realzied it was curable cancer and were in tears ..!!!

I am July Filer too I have not received evn a single receipt for anything. I called USCIS they said it is taking from 90 to 120 days so wait and call.
I had long dely in gettting my 485/EAD/AP receipts from USCIS and I wrote to my local congressman. It really worked and got the receipt numbers from congressman office.
Try to write to your local congressman and explain your situation in one page and give them your package tracking information.
